Newlyweds and new doctors, Brittany & Nick, have accomplished a lot over the years with some of the most exciting recently! A few weeks before their nuptials, they both graduated medical school, bought a new house, a new car and after dating for several years, were ready to get married. Alex from Cherry Blossom Weddings and Events helped the couple’s special day come together as the ceremony took place at the stunning Holy Trinity Church in Georgetown, followed by a fun and beautiful reception at the Fairmont. The bride chose colors of apple green and purple which looked great in the ballroom. Thanks to Greg Gibson for the fabulous photos! Congratulations Brittany & Nick!

Elizabeth from Cherry Blossom Weddings & Events had an amazing time working with Sofia and Afzalul to plan their traditional Hindu wedding in which every detail was colorful and joyous! The wedding began with the baraat, in which Afzalul’s family escorted him down the DC streets to the ceremony at the Westin Grand Hotel. Once the groom arrived, a sitar and tabla played in the background as Sofia was escorted down the aisle by her parents. Following the ceremony, the couple changed into their reception attire and headed to the ballroom, where tons of red orchids scented the room and amber lights gave the room a great look. After a tasty meal from Rangoli Restaurant and a beautiful cake designed by Fancy Cakes by Leslie, the party really began! The guests packed the dance floor the whole night. Alex was thrilled to be in the company of famous wedding cake baker, Sylvia Weinstock not only once but twice last week. Sylvia was the guest of honor at the NACE Gala that was hosted by the Westin Embassy Row last Sunday night. The following day for lunch, Doreen Tisone of Engaged! Magazine hosted a luncheon at Oxon Hill – one of the area’s most beautiful venues. Sylvia spoke about her business, took questions and really how to go after what you want. She is a firecracker and so inspiring!!

Daily Candy's Washington DC edition recently publicized a new pastry house called Couture Cupcakes, located in Maryland.  What especially caught my eye was the unique planter idea that they designed:

Gorgeous? Yes.  Delicious?  You bet!  Now, that's a win, win.  This would be a great idea for shower centerpieces, a dessert reception or even an inspiration for centerpieces that could take care of decoration and dessert!

All the flavors have names and there are 19 so far.  I'm leaning towards:

Patti - Chocolate Cake with Peppermint and Chocolate Chip Butter Cream Frosting
or maybe for a light summer day:
Abby - Vanilla Cake with Chunks of Strawberries and Strawberry Vanilla Swirl Butter Cream Frosting

The Sweet Life: Baker Norman Davis makes ‘em not too sweet…just right.

Pastries by Randolph: A bakery that has been around for a while that is still producing great wedding cakes and desserts for a great price.

Confectioner’s Art: Sandy’s cakes start at $3.25 a slice and go up from there.
